Ian is an experienced lab technician and trained engineer who began his career in 2020 during the global pandemic, where he helped scale operations at the first CLIA-certified COVID-19 PCR testing lab in Alabama. He later joined Molecular Designs, LLC, where he developed multiplexed PCR diagnostic panels and played a key role in the company’s expansion into a new ISO13485-compliant 25,000-square-foot facility. Active in Birmingham’s biotech startup ecosystem, he supported early-stage ventures in translating scientific innovations into practical, market-ready solutions. Ian earned his bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Outside of the lab, Ian is an active member of the St. Louis Chess Club and has a passion for bicycles and building bike-friendly cities and infrastructure.
